Things to Know About the Wood-Fired Pizza Oven
Best bases to use: The oven works best with fresh pizza dough or Italian-style pre-made bases. Thin Lebanese bread or ultra-thin crusts tend to burn quickly, as it’s just too hot for those!
We provide the gear: You’ll be given a picnic basket with cutlery and crockery, and we’ll also supply wood, kindling, pizza pans, paddles and utensils.
What you’ll need to bring: Your pizza bases and all your favourite toppings.
Getting it hot: Euan and I will prep the fire for you using well-seasoned timber and kindling. It takes about three hours to get the oven up to temperature (around 400°C). We’ll let you know when it’s ready and walk you through managing the fire and the cooking process.
Cooking tips: Once the oven is ready, pizzas only take 2–6 minutes to cook. We’ll give you a quick rundown so you don’t end up with charred crusts (unless that’s your thing).
Weather and fire bans: The oven can’t be used in the rain or during fire ban days. Please check the forecast and fire danger ratings before planning your pizza night.
Groceries and supplies: Shopping options are limited in our remote village. Please ensure you have gathered all necessary items before arriving. The Laguna Village Providore is just 4.5 km from us and may have what you're looking for, but you need to order with them in advance, as we are a small country village.
Clean up: Wildlife are always on the hunt for food, so please don’t leave any food or dirty utensils behind.
Fire safety: Safety first! We’ll run through the basics and show you how to safely manage the oven. After that, you’re in charge (with us nearby if you need a hand).

How the Pizza Oven Works?
We’ll get the wood-fired oven going for you using hardwood and a bit of patience, it takes about 3-4 hours to get it properly hot. After that, it’s over to you! You’ll need to keep an eye on the fire, feed it with wood as needed, and maintain the flame so the oven stays nice and hot.
Once it hits around 400°C, it’s pizza time. Only make your pizzas when you're ready to cook them straight away, if they sit around too long, the bases can go soggy.
When you're all done cooking, simply pop the oven door back into place to safely close it. This helps the fire die down naturally.
Enjoy the process and especially the pizza!
